Description
Director Identification Number (DIN) & Digital Signature Certificate (DSC)
What is DIN?
Director Identification Number (DIN) is a mandatory 8-digit unique ID allotted by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) to all existing and proposed directors of a company. It has lifetime validity and serves as a centralized database to track a director’s details and participation across companies.
Key Highlights of DIN:
- Required for becoming a director in any Company or LLP.
- DIN is linked to PAN (for Indian nationals) or passport (for foreign nationals).
- Any change in address or personal details must be updated immediately.
- DIN Directory maintained by MCA includes name, address, PAN, and other key data.
Why is DIN Important?
- Mandatory for company incorporation or appointment as director.
- Also applicable for LLPs, where DIN/DPIN (Designated Partner Identification Number) is needed.
- Helps the government maintain transparency and traceability of company promoters and directors.
